46) Muscle Hypertrophy
Muscle hypertrophy occurs when the muscle cell develops more than usual in size. This is due to an increase in muscle cell volume. Muscle hypertrophy increases the ability of a muscle to contract, and also increases the number of muscle fibers that can be activated. Therefore, it improves both strength and endurance. There are several factors that influence muscle hypertrophy.
These include training with resistance and proper nutrition. Proper nutrition can help promote muscle growth by increasing muscle protein synthesis and decreasing muscle protein breakdown. High-intensity training also contributes to muscle hypertrophy by increasing the number of myofibrils and mitochondria in the muscle cells.
In addition to proper nutrition and training, some supplements may also play a role in promoting muscle hypertrophy; however, it is not clear whether they are effective or not. Therefore, more research is needed to determine their effectiveness before we can recommend them for use.
