Miley Cyrus was really carrying the team fashion-wise.
Miley Cyrus saw the opportunity to make Grammys fashion history on Sunday night and took it.
In the span of a single evening, the pop star managed to mark several milestones: winning her first two Grammy awards, paying homage to Tina Turner with a show-stopping performance, and last but not least, formally introducing the world to her boyfriend. They were even spotted kissing at their table inside the event.
What made the occasion feel extra special was the carefully curated lineup of looks Cyrus brought with her, adding up to a grand total of five costume changes by the end of the night. For reference, the live broadcast was only four hours long.
To kick things off, Cyrus hit the red carpet in a custom John Galliano for Maison Margiela couture dress held together with metal safety pins and interwoven strands of beads. She finished the gladiator-esque look with a pair of yellow Margiela Tabis.
She quickly followed that up with a high-neck halter-top jumpsuit covered in black sequins to collect her win for best pop solo performance, although her longtime stylist Bradley Kenneth has yet to confirm the designer.
Cyrus disappeared briefly before taking the stage again to perform her Grammy-winning self-love anthem “Flowers” in a vintage Bob Mackie minidress from 2002 and a pair of strappy heels.
Embellished with delicate silver fringe and jewel-toned beading on the bodice, the look and the performance that went with it both paid subtle homage to the late Tina Turner.
Next, Cyrus changed into a sheer black lace catsuit with a strapless sweetheart neckline and a beaded fringe belt backstage. The MVP of this ensemble, however, has to be the feather bolero wrapped around her waist and wrists.
Cyrus ended the evening by accepting the award for record of the year for “Flowers” in a chocolate brown one-shoulder Gucci gown with a thigh-high slit and pointed slingback heels in a matching hue.
She even carried a brown Gucci bamboo top-handle purse on stage to accept the award, although I’m guessing the trophy didn’t fit in her bag.
In true Miley Cyrus fashion, she exited the stage after her acceptance speech with these parting words: “I don’t think I forgot anyone…but I might’ve forgotten underwear. Bye!”
