Celebrity Big Brother will return for a second series as ITV bosses prepare to sign off a sequel, MailOnline can reveal.

Following the successful comeback of the celebrity instalment, producers are ‘excited’ to recruit a new lineup of talent and aim to secure even bigger names when the show kicks off again early next year.

With presenters AJ Odudu, 36, and Will Best, 39, at the helm, the entire team have been ‘very pleased’ with the popularity of the first celebrity edition, which has proven the appetite is still there for the show and it’s format.

The civilian version is returning this autumn and Celebrity Big Brother will be back on our screens in the New Year, with bosses aiming to have an even greater impact with the show’s storylines and housemates.

‘Nothing has formally been commissioned yet but everyone is looking to go again and the search is already on for the perfect housemates.’

Celebrity Big Brother attracted the biggest audience in over a decade when it launched on ITV earlier this month, with 3.8million viewers across all platforms.

The show has since been streamed over 14million times on ITVX and spin-off programme Late & Live was the top performing title every night for ITV2.

Stars of the series including former X Factor judges Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh, Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, Strictly professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin and ex-This Morning host Fern Britton contributed to the show’s popularity.

From A-list anecdotes and savage putdowns, tears and tantrums and cutthroat face to face eliminations, CBB producers brought the drama, and signing the likes of Sharon, who reportedly earned six-figures a day to be the show’s ‘celebrity lodger’ certainly paid off.

Ibiza Weekender star David Potts won the season, beating runner-up Nikita to the title during last week’s final with Louis, Fern and Coronation Street actor Colson Smith.

MailOnline has contacted an ITV representative for comment.

The broadcaster confirmed they were also bringing back the celebrity instalment last year following the success of the civilian version and their keenness to create more ‘unmissable Big Brother moments.’

Speaking about commissioning the celebrity version in November last year, Paul Mortimer, Director of Reality Commissioning & Acquisitions and Controller of ITV2 and ITVBe, said: ‘The reception from our viewers to Big Brother’s return has been fantastic.

‘We’re therefore thrilled to announce that we’ll be bringing our very own celebrity edition to ITV1 and ITVX next year.

‘Casting is underway to find a new batch of famous faces who are sure to provide more iconic and unmissable BB moments.’
