Nick Kyrgios has announced Novak Djokovic as the next guest on his podcast and has got fans excited by teasing his ‘return to the court’. The Australian has played just one singles match since October 2022 after undergoing two knee surgeries and overcoming a torn knee ligament.

Kyrgios has scheduled his first tournament since recovering from his injury woes. The former Wimbledon finalist will compete at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) this summer.

During his absence from the court, Kyrgios has been ramping up his media appearances, working for Eurosport during the Australian Open. He has also set up a successful podcast, Good Trouble, and has confirmed that World No 1 Djokovic will be his next guest.

Announcing Djokovic’s appearance, Kyrgios also appeared to confirm that he is nearing a return to the court. He wrote on X: “Next guest on Good Trouble – Novak Djokovic. Tennis footage – Tuesday next week! BACK ON COURT!”

Kyrgios was announced as part of the line-up for UTS earlier this week. An unconventional exhibition tournament held at the Forest Hills Stadium, New York, each match is played over four quarters of eight minutes and players must earn as many points as they can. It will take place from August 22 to 23.

He told UTS of his recovery from surgery and injury: “I’m feeling great but taking it one day at a time. It was a pretty significant surgery so we will see how it goes.”

Kyrgios recently revealed that he would be back on tour “soon”, implying that he could return for the grass court season in the months leading up to his participation at UTS. While commentating at the Australian Open, he revealed that Wimbledon was a tournament he had in mind for his comeback.

Wimbledon is a special tournament for Kyrgios. He reached the final in 2022 and made his big breakthrough at the tournament eight years earlier, announcing himself on the big stage with a fourth-round victory over the then-World No 1 Rafael Nadal.

Kyrgios has been giving fans regular updates on his return to fitness. “I’m seeing improvement every day with my wrist and I’m in the middle of getting back to playing shape,” he said last month.

“I will be back. I’m not sure the exact time frame. I will be cautious and take my time. We know what happens when I’m healthy.”
